Uranium Mill in Gunnison
The Gunnison Uranium Mill Site is located in Gunnison County, Colorado and is covered under EEOICPA as a DOE facility for the remediation period of 1991-1995. Remediation workers for these years are eligible to file Part B and Part E claims. Workers covered by RECA 5 (Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA)) at Gunnison Uranium Mill are also eligible to file a Part E EEOICPA claim.
The Uranium Mill in Gunnison is 1/2 mile southwest of Gunnison, Colorado and next to the Gunnison County Airport. It encompasses 61 acres. It is a DOE site for the years September 1991-1995 and workers are eligible to file claims under Part B and Part E.
This mill processed approximately 540,000 tons of uranium ore between 1958 and 1962. This ore processing is covered under the auspices of the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act and is not separately covered under EEOICPA. However, DOE environmental remediation contractors performed environmental remediation under the Uranium Mill Tailings Radiation Control Act (Public Law 95-604) at this former uranium ore processing mill from September 1991 though December 1995. DOE and DOE contractor employees who performed this remediation are covered under EEOICPA. (credit DOE)
